OZAD - One Zentangle a Day - Lesson One

I am taking a workshop on-line through a Yahoo Group called Artists of the Round Table The image is from my workbook and includes the patterns from the lesson and the ATCs (3.5"x 2.5") cards.

The ATC at the top was for the lesson the others were for me to fill the page.

Zentangle For Nick and Jes Days 1-4

Day One - J&N in pencil

I started another large tangle - 14x17 - This one is for my nephew and his wife I started by creating their initials with my Cricut® J&N. For this one I thought that I would put them in the upper Right hand corner of the image. It's difficult to see it in this picture, I traced the cut out in pencil. Then I drew grid lines around the page.  After I got all done with that I decided I didn't like the way the grids were so I tossed that one and started over.  I liked my second attempt so I stared drawing the tangles - I was NOT pleased with the result of those tangles so I tossed that one and started all over again. You know what they say... Threes a Charm, I think I'll keep this one.

Day two

This is what I accomplished on my second night of drawing. As this is being done in my evenings after work, working-out and then dinner and clean-up I didn't get as much done as I would have liked.

Full Right side of Image

This was a good weekend for drawing!  I worked on my drawing a bunch during the weekend - that is between all the other "stuff" that I had going on. The image to the left is of the right side of the drawing.  The images below are close-ups of this side of the page.

Large Zentangle Image Completed!

I finished my image for Scott last night and here it is!  He likes the black and white drawings better, so that is what I did.

Now all I have to do is frame it and he can hang it on the wall where he wants it.

Today's Zentangle Progress

This is today's progress on my Zentangle image. I didn't realize how much I worked on it until I scanned the image.  There is still a lot that has to be done but it's getting there. 

So... we are told that in the Chicago area we are expected to get about 23" of snow and blizzard conditions, in the next couple of days (1/31/11 to 2/2/11). I don't usually believe what they say but it certainly seems like they may actually be correct this time.   Since my commute is close to 45 miles each way - I don't think I'm driving in that mess - and I also think we better get to the grocery store early tomorrow or there won't be anything for dinner if we can't go out.

2011, 01 JST Zentangle Project Progress

I started this image for my husband last night. I asked him hat he would like for his birthday and he requested that I make him something. Really?? Wow!  That really made my day. 

I started this in December - just the pencil lines. Last night I finally started working on the actual image. I probably spent about 3 hours on the drawing last night and I can't wait to get back to it when I get home tonight. This work stuff can really get in the way LOL...

Paula's Zentangle(r) Birthday Card

Today's birthday card is for my sister-in-law Paula.  Do you see a theme here????

I decided late last year that I was going to send birthday cards this year. So far I haven't missed one - OK it's only January 19, but I have sent out three cards so far. The only problem I'm having is that I keep finishing them the day after they should have been in the mail!


I haven't had much time to just sit and work on my cards - I will make time this weekend. I think I have 16 cards to send by the end of February -- I"m going to have to come up with another theme soon.


My friend, Linda, and I have been on a Cricut Cartridge Quest. A couple of weeks ago we found out that Michael's was selling the older cartridges for $9.99! What a steal, I mean deal... We went to four different Michael's and found that we already owned the ones that they still had - we missed the beginning of the sale by two days.  Last night I had to go to Menard's and they have Cricut Cartridges there - Never in a million years would I have looked for Cricut "stuff" at Menards. They were also selling them at $9.98, so I picked up a few that I didn't already own. I felt like I won the lottery.  Anyway, the point is now my friend and I are challenging each other, we are going to actually use the cartridges that we have to create cards. YIKES - use what we already own, who does that???


CRICUT CHALLENGE - We are picking a cartridge that we have and making two cards from the cartridge, we have to have the recipe with the card so we can go back and duplicate it when we want.  The first cartridge I'm going to use is Celebrations... This is going to be interesting.

First Zentangle Post of 2011

Happy New Year everyone!  

I am hoping to do a lot more tangling in the new year. I'm also hoping to do more posting this year. We had an okay 2010 I'm hoping for a much better 2011. I don't really want to get into that so I will let it go. One good thing that has happened, is that, I've had a few people tell me I should try and sell my work - that is a bit scary and daunting to me.  So, I guess I'll just keep thinking about it for a while and see if I can actually come up with something that may sell. And how do you decide how much to charge for your work. I've never created anything that anyone would really want to purchase.

In process - Jan's Christmas Present

The goal for this year will be to post at least once a week with a tangled image.  Okay this is what I am working on right now - it is a 5" x 7" image with the letter "J" I am creating this for my sister Jan for Christmas - so I'm a little late this year. I should finish it by the end of the month.  I still need to finish the corners, color the "J" and add the finishing touches prior to framing.

I have another image that I just penciled in, one that I my husband requested that I make for him - I tried to take a picture of the page but because it is in pencil the image did not come out at all - I will try to take it outside tomorrow morning.

My first attempt at a LARGE Zentangle

I really wanted to put a tangle on the wall in our home, but my husband wasn't so sure that would be a great idea - What if we decided we didn't like it?!? So we set on a compromise - I would create something on large paper and we can see how we like it on the wall - it won't be exactly the same but I'll have something on the wall.

So...the other night I found a 14" x 17" pad and drew a string and started tangling. I usually do my tangles on 3.5" x 2.5" ATC cards - I've done a few 5x7 but mostly they are small.

The rest of the pictures are close up images of what I have done so far - in three nights.  This first one is a close up of the entire image

The first thing that I drew was the string - I did that in pencil. Then the two large striped "tubes" for lack of a better name.

I worked on some of the background and then decided I really wanted to create a scroll - I've been working on figuring out how for a while and I think I finally figured it out - now if I can do it again that will be another issue. ;-)

I like what I have done so far.  I have a long way to go but I love the process.

Yes I think I did it pretty well!
